Fibre-Shelkote™
Vinyl Ester Resin
II

Fibre-Shelkote Vinyl Ester Resin II
is even better than the original Fibre-Shelkote Vinyl
Ester Resin. An elongation of the
molecular structure has resulted in slower
gel time which is perfect for hand lay-up.
Our resin is manufactured
specifically for older swimming pools, spa's, and
hot tubs that must be resurfaced indoors or outdoors under
various climatic conditions.
Take a minute and read the
Technical Data Sheet prepared by Interplastic
Corporation, one of the country's largest resin
manufacturers.
Don't be fooled or mislead by fancy
sounding technical terms. Only Vinyl Ester Resin can
be used successfully for any resurfacing involving
constant submersion in salt or chlorinated water.
Every fiberglass swimming pool and
the hull of every fiberglass yacht manufactured in
the United States is formed with vinyl ester resin
and fiberglass.
It's interesting to note that
only the hull of even the most expensive fiberglass yacht
is manufactured with vinyl ester resin,
the
superstructure (everything above) is made with cheap
polyester resin.
Our new (2006) resin product VE8137 has an
elongated molecular structure which extends the
gel-time substantially, and is recommended by the
manufacturer for use in swimming pools only.
Based on customer experience this resin can have
a life-expectancy of 30 or more years.
Why? Because only the area
constantly submerged in water must be made of high
quality vinyl ester resin. The rest of a boat,
that is not constantly submerged, can be made of
less costly polyester resin.
Ask yourself a question:
"after my
swimming pool is resurfaced, will the new surface be
constantly submerged in water"? Of course it will,
so it becomes obvious that only vinyl ester resin
can be applied to the pool surface. Exactly like
every fiberglass swimming pool and fiberglass boat
hull manufactured by reliable builders worldwide.
The original Fibre-Shelkote resin (VE8117) had a
short gel time of only 12-15 minutes. This gel time
was perfect for new fiberglass pools and fiberglass
boat hulls being manufactured in a controlled
environment, because it was quickly sprayed onto a
mold by machine.
Unfortunately, it added additional stress to
do-it-yourself pool owners because it dried so
quickly. Viola; Interplastic Corporation
developed a slower gel time version of the original
VE8117 and designated it VE8137. We call it the best
yet: Fibre-Shelkote II.
