Major Update: I received
two phone calls from folks who apparently missed the point. This is what Mr.
Bankoff wrote on his web site (poolrestoration.com) and which I
highlighted below.
On the top page (shown below) titled
poolrestoration.com/fiberhistory.html, he wrote: "I
did not go bankrupt."
On the second page
shown below (poolrestoration.com/fiberhistory1.html) he wrote:
"I had to go into personal bankruptcy
protection, lost my house, my trucks and my wife divorced me."
If you don't believe that these are outright lies, you should give him your
money, and recommend him to your friends and relatives!
Or, maybe he just forgot!
Would you forget:
-
that you filed personal bankruptcy?
-
that you lost your home?
-
that you lost your trucks (if he even had
any)?
-
and that your wife divorced you?
KEEP IN MIND...although you see
the pages below, one right after the other, he did not write them one after the
other. These pages were written months, if not years, apart and were obviously in response to
something I had written.
For convenience, I have copied
that part of page 6 below.
Bankoff - He Who Speaks With A Fork-ed
Tongue
The following
was copied by me from the poolrestoration.com web site: Bill Nash

My Fibergalss History
Over the years, I have
had customers ask me why I was so critical of
fiberglass pool restorations. In the
late eighties I formed two corporations, one
that would do new construction with a fiberglass
membrane and the other and the other that would
do fiberglass restoration of older residential
pools. I used a chopper gun to spray the fiberglass
on large commercial pools and a hand laid application
for residential pools.
In five
or six short years I had so many failures that
I had to go out of business.
I did not go bankrupt.
I used my personal funds to fix these pools
and give refunds to others. By doing this I
kept my good name with the Better Business Bureau,
and my previous customers. Court records show
I have no lawsuits or judgments against me or
any of my companies. I have been a pool
contractor for the past 49 years.
I believe this is unique
in the pool industry today and it is a fact
of which I am very proud.
Fiberglass has a history of early failures by
professionals. Many of these contractors went
out of business because they could not stand
behind the warranties they offered.
How in the world do you
expect the homeowner, even with good instructions,
have a successful application.

coat coatings.
If you feel you must fiberglass your pool, I
would recommend a chopper gun application,
not a hand laid. Your contractor
will be able to give you a far thicker glass
and a thicker application of gel coat. With
this type of application you should receive
a 5-year warranty on the gel coat that was sprayed
on. Due to the thickness of the gel coat it
will not exotherminate (over heat) and you should
receive a 15-year warranty on the fiberglass
shell.
I would recommend asking your contractor
not to gel coat his sprayed on fiberglass application
but to use the UltraGuard 6000 in its place.
Our 15-mil application is thicker and its longevity
is far greater. We have been on the
Internet for the past 5-years and have shipped
the UltraGuard 6000 color topcoat to over 2,400
homeowners. It has proven
to be a superior top coating to any other product
in the industry today.

Thanks for taking the time to read my recommendations
for your fiberglass pool restoration.
Regards,
Ken Bankoff

My Disasterous Fiberglass History
(I never dreamed I would be posting this on my Website)
PAGE#2>>>>
I have been a member of the BBB for 17 years.
I have the strongest rating of A+ that
the BBB gives to their contractors.
When
I had problems the BBB took away my ratings
for 3-4 years. At that time they knew I was
trying to satisfy my customer complaints. In
this period I was never expelled. I think
my history and superb rating with the BBB any
contractor would be proud to have. The history
of the swimming pool industry does not have
the best reputation. Pool contractors that have
a bad track record of not satisfying their customers
can never be a member of the BBB.
I still have one crew working for me at this
time. I do not use sub contractors. These men
have been with me for over 13 years. If you
live within a 30 mile radius of Elkins Park,
PA I would be happy to give you a quote over
the phone, or you could see our display pool
in Mt. Laurel, NJ. You can also meet me on a
job site where my men are currently working.
WE HAVE SOLD OVER 2700 HOME OWNERS TO
DATE. NOT ONE MANUFACTURER
OF ANY POOL COATING CAN SAY ANYTHING NEGITIVE
ABOUT THE ULTRAGUARD PRODUCT. MANUFACTURERS
KNOW WE HAVE THE BEST POOL COATING IN THE INDUSTRY
TODAY. THE ULTRAGUARD POOL
CHALLENGE HAS BEEN ON MY WEBSITE FOR
THE PAST FIVE YEARS. NO MANUFACTURER WOULD DARE
TO COMPARE THEIR COATING TO ULTRAGUARD. EVERY
POOL COATING THAT THEY MANUFACTURE HAS CLAY,
SILACA, SOLVENTS AND FILLERS. THESE FILLERS
CAUSES CHAULKING BLISTERS AND DELAMINATION WITHIN
A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME AFTER APPLICATION. WE
OFFER A NO NONSENSE WARRANTY
THAT IS UNEQUAL IN THE POOL INDUSTRY TODAY.
The problems that I mentioned at the top of
the page were caused by fiber glassing swimming
pools. Fiber glass has a history of early failures
by professional installers. Many of these contractors
went out of business as I did. They could not
stand behind the warranties they offered.
How in the world do you
expect a homeowner, even with good instructions,
have a successful application? I had
to use my personal funds to do jobs over or
give refunds to keep my reputation with the
BBB. I believe this is unique in the pool industry
today and is a fact which I am very proud of.
I
had to go into personal bankruptcy protection,
lost my house, my trucks and my wife divorced
me. I was even hospitalized because I
had a nervous breakdown.
The good news, I
was back on my feet within 3 to 4 years as a
successful contractor.
